Sheep

Ant’s Rant – September 2024

Well Autumn is well and truly with us.

The swallows are gathering on the wires in preparation for their long flight home. Autumn for me is a time of calm, a time to reflect a little (me time)!  Admiring, beautiful sun rises and exceptional full moons, if we are privileged to see them through the clouds.

The Owls begin to give vent to how their feeling by coming into the yard at night looking for food and voicing their presence.

Most of the sheep flocks have been visited by the ram and are enjoying a spell with no lambs, just chilling in the fields. Shepherds are concerned of the maggot risk to the sheep, especially with this thundering damp weather that seems to have been with us all summer.

The harvest is on going with spring corn still to be harvested but with good luck and dry weather the new seasons planting will soon be in full swing.

With the onset of later Autumn, the time for covering your horse for a wide variety of worm. Tapeworm is later in October after the weather turns somewhat colder. For advice on this matter, speak to Nicole our resident Equine advisor.

The schools are all back and Cornwall is now a lot quieter for the visitors have mostly gone back.

Take time everyone for a few Autumnal weeks to find space in your daily routine to totally enjoy the tranquillity that comes with Autumn. Customers tell me that Christmas stuff is already in the shops, creating pressure for families to fall into the trap of starting Christmas far too early.

Hopefully not you.

Best wishes

Anthony
